“The Jockey’s Edge”
Janice’s Handicapping Report
My top 3 picks, win, place, and show: 8, 6, 5
Horse 1: Sam Sparkle: ML: 8-1. 8 yo ridgling
Been sprinting, has been running over his head, drops into his own company here. Heavy hitters in this race like Mott with lightly raced Mean Season and Toscano with the salty Alex the Terror. Could pick up a piece of the action if the pace collapses. May figure in the superfecta. Pass on other exotics with this
Horse 2: Mean Season: ML: 2-1 6 yo horse
Has won 4 out of 5 races and looks to be the one to beat in here. Has Irad Ortiz, Jr. Quick out of the gate and able to sustain effort. May not be this level of horse, though. His best races have been at 50K or lower price level. This race is 100K claiming optional. That’s a big jump. Bet with caution, especially with
#4 horse Classic Salsa in the race, who is also quick out of the gate and more experienced.
Horse 3: Heaven’s Runway: ML: 5-1 6 yo horse
Has been getting beat in lesser company at lesser tracks, but still running well, all things considered.
Would steer away from this one. Does not look competitive in this company.
Horse 4: Classic Salsa: ML: 5-1 5 yo horse
This horse has been running well except for one miserable showing at GP in December. Definitely a
contender. Would use in triple and other exotics.
Horse 5: Nubin Ridge: ML: 6-1 6 yo gelding
Solid tune-up work Feb. 6. Excellent effort last race. Contender.
Horse 6: Mewannarose ML: 6-1 6 yo gelding
Has been running solid races in good company. Runs well on the Inner. Tremendous effort last race.
Definitely use in the mix.
Horse 8: Alex the Terror ML: 4-1 4 yo colt
Youngest horse in the race with the best record by far. This horse really loves to run and does not like to get beat. Demolished company at $62,500 3 back. Picked to win.
